Town loses arbitration ruling in Harvey dispute
The town's argument that the union representing the DPW employees had not
filed its grievance (regarding the forced retirement of Paul Harvey) in
a timely manner was rejected last week by an arbitrator. The arbitrator
ruled that the grievance was timely and that it was "arbitrable."
Paul Harvey has filed a federal court suit alleging that his firing violated
union seniority rules and was the result of age discrimination on the part of
the town. The federal judge has ordered mediation in the matter. In the
meantime, depositions of Town Administrator Tim Higgins and DPW
Superintendent Vincent D'Amicis are scheduled for later this month.

METCO supported by 64% of town voters; Dobrow and Hessler elected to SC
in squeaker
A below-expected turnout of only 1,056 voters elected Julie Dobrow
and Sandy Hessler to the Lincoln School Committee in the only contested
race on the ballot. Hessler beat the third candidate, Wayne Keown
by only 14 votes.
Voters strongly supported Lincoln's participation in the METCO Program.
About 64% voted to maintain or increase the town's level of commitment to
the diversity program.
In other election news, the override passed by almost 2-1, as did the
Community Preservation Act property tax surcharge (from 1.5% to 3%).
