LINCOLN FIRE DEPARTMENT OFFERS
PERSONAL SAFETY TIPS
LINCOLN
MA – Residents of the Town are not unaccustomed to major
emergencies, like blizzards, hurricanes and floods. Due to recent
worldwide events much attention has been focused on terrorist
activities. Regardless of the type of disaster or emergency faced,
below are some basic steps that every family should take.
Families
should first develop an emergency preparedness kit. This should
include non-perishable food and water, enough to last for 5 days
without power.
Residents should also have flashlights and
battery-operated radios, with plenty of spare batteries. The use of
candles for lighting is not recommended due to the potential fire
hazard.
It is also recommended to keep a five day supply of any
special items that may be needed to care for the elderly, small
children and the family pet.
Residents who
have gasoline powered generators are also reminded of the hazards
associated with carbon monoxide and should be sure that their
generators are properly ventilated.
In the event
of an emergency, residents should stay at home and listen to the
radio for news and instructions.
There are no local shelters in
Lincoln, as the Town’s Local Emergency Planning Committee, chaired
by Fire Chief John Burke, has determined that safety is best
promoted by staying at home.
Residents who
would like more information can come to the Fire Station and pickup
a handout. Additional information can be found on the World Wide Web
