Fire department asks for help with snow removal
The Lincoln Fire Department is asking all residents for help after the recent snow storm, which dumped two feet of snow on the area. Lincoln's firefighters, along with Lincoln's Water Department, have been busy shoveling out buried hydrants, and they can use your help in shoveling out your nearest fire hydrant..

A fire hydrant that is buried in the snow can hamper firefighters' efforts while firefighters lose valuable time trying to locate it. Residents can perform a valuable public service by shoveling out any fire hydrants located near them.  A clearly visible, accessible fire hydrant can save your home - or even your life

Open space, not housing, a priority in most towns

According to an article in Sunday's (2/16) Boston Globe, most suburban Boston towns are using CPA funds to acquire conservation land rather than for affordable housing.  The article points out that Weston, which  has only 3.3% affordable housing, is committing $3.5 million to purchase a 23-acre parcel.  Lincoln, on the other hand, could end up spending up to 80% of its CPA funds on affordable housing over the next few years.

Metco ballot initiative removed, warrant article remains
A petition to have Metco-related ballot questions added to this year's town election ballot has been withdrawn by proponent Cindy Sweetser.  This was done after the school committee voted to oppose ballot questions, but to support a more vague warrant article than the one below (see Metco news article below). The new article would call for the school committee to "re-examine and potentially modify its commitment to the Metco program." A yes vote would lead to a re-opening of the Metco debate.
