The Carroll School is a dynamic independent day school for elementary and middle school students who have been diagnosed with specific learning disabilities in reading and writing, such as dyslexia.  The school was founded in 1967 and is located on Baker Bridge Road on the grounds of the former Storrow Estate in Lincoln.  The school makes use of the best current information about learning difficulties, building upon a body of proven scientific knowledge to teach our children in the ways that they can learn.  Its teachers are caring professionals with special training and years of experience.  Classes are small; our environment is warm and inviting.

The Carroll School students are educated in the subjects a child would study at any school: language arts and literature, mathematics, science, history, computers, and the arts.  In addition, the school offers physical education, an active sports program, and self-esteem building programs that are unique to our school and the needs of our students.  Teachers utilize a structured, sequential, multisensory approach.  The principles of Orton-Gillingham are the foundation we use to allow children to learn through sight, speech, sound and touch.  Students are taught strategies to compensate for their language-based difficulties.  Students are helped to “learn to learn”, to self-advocate, and the results are empowering and transforming.

The Carroll School is accredited by the Massachusetts Department of Education Division of Special Education, as a school for children with language-based learning difficulties.  The Carroll School is also accredited by The New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Independent School Association of Massachusetts.

The Carroll School and the Parents’ Association host inspirational and compassionate educational professionals who speak about understanding learning differences in children, innovations in the field of learning disabilities, and raising self-esteem and resiliency in children. The public is invited to attend these meetings.
