Codman House

The original house was built about 1735 by Chambers Russell I and was enlarged in the 1790s to its present three-story Federal style by John Codman, brother-in-law of  Chambers Russell III and executor of his estate. There is evidence to suggest that Charles Bullfinch was involved in this renovation.

The estate, covering some 250 acres, has been farmed almost continuously since 1735 and the history and use of the house and barns are well documented over the past 300 years.

The Codman Estate, "The Grange," is owned by Historic New England (formerly the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities).  It is open to the public 11 am - 4 pm, June through October, on the first Saturday of the month, with tours starting on the hour.

Lincoln residents are admitted free.
